Description

Trainees must be able to identify patients for whom surgery would be an appropriate management option and to know who and when to admit them. They must be able to recognise how selection for surgery is informed by the patient's unique medical, psychological and social circumstances. They must involve the patient, and where appropriate their carer, partner or relatives, in the decision and enable them to express their informed consent.
