Recognizing and manage complications




Trainees must be able to recognise when a patient has or is developing a complication or side-effect from treatment. They must be able to manage the complication in an appropriate and timely manner. They must be able to inform and counsel the patient, and where appropriate their carer, partner or relatives, in an honest, open and sensitive way.They must be able to document and report a critical incident to their supervisor. They must be able to recognise when complications occur at a higher than expected frequency and respond appropriately.
